Our annual charge conference meeting will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Maryville United Methodist Church (102 N Main Street, Maryville, MO 64468-1601). Charge Conference is the official, yearly meeting of a local church under the direction of the district superintendent. Full members of Oregon UMC and Forest City UMC are invited and encouraged to attend and participate. All full members have voice and vote.

The charge conference will affirm the nominations report and pastoral salary, approve the membership audit (including reviewing active/inactive members), and receive the trustee report, staff-parish report, and pastoral continuing education report. Charge conferences are required to sell church property, elect new leaders, and establish a pastoral housing allowance.

Our conference will be held with other neighboring UM churches for learning and sharing each other’s ministries. The theme for this year’s conference is based on the Annual Conference theme, “Remarkable.”

Joy of the Toy

The month of October is special for many reasons.  For the Holt County Toy and Benevolent Fund, it is Joy of the Toy month.  This fund strives to make sure every Holt County child has a Christmas.

Area churches are asked to distribute small jars to their members with the caption “Let’s ‘Change’ a Child’s Christmas.”  The jars are to be filled with coins and returned to the churches by Nov. 19.  Church members may choose to purchase a toy and drop off in the toy barrel.  Those toys will be picked up before Thanksgiving.  The toy distribution will be Dec. 10.  Each family is contacted personally and given a time to come to the distribution.  This provides a little privacy and anonymity.

Children from newborn to age 10 will receive a Santa sack with a stuffed animal, a game, stocking hat, gloves, and toys.  Parents/Guardians of older children from 11-18 will be given a $40 voucher to shop at the Dollar General in Mound City on the day of the distribution.   Children 18 must be living in the home and attending school. If you have questions, contact Phyllis Dannar.
